MEET TAMIR SPEIGHTS, EMERGING SHOE ARTIST, DRUM-STOOL DESIGNER AND BUILDING HERO

Meet Tamir, Building Hero, drum stool designer and sneaker artist. Tamir recently sat down with us for our #heroesmake series to talk with us about his passion for creating wearable art, the related business he’s starting and what he’s been working on during the #covid19 shutdown.

“I enjoy putting my art in motion," he declared, giving his custom designed sneaker paintings a clear distinction from traditional gallery hung works.

Noted as one of his most challenging creations, he explains the sneaker painting as an abstract depiction of the human circulatory system. Inspired by an anatomy lecture during his high school years. Tamir is largely responsible for the design of drum stools found in the pictured mobile music and library carts that Tiny WPA and Building Heroes designed and built for the Philadelphia Department of Parks and Recreation and Fairmount Parks Conservancy.

Both the mobile game cart and mobile music cart were at the Oval last summer and then moved to Love Park in the Fall. They will be used in both spaces again once things open up and are now essential ‘tools’, along with the mobile game cart (in Love Park) that the Parks and Rec and the Fairmount Park Conservancy use for activating public spaces.
